How did you get your first orchid?

I got some from the collection of the University of Minnesota. They were old divisions which had neither roots nor leaves but I made them grow.

To grow orchids is to know that you are in the company of some of the great scientists that have lived on this earth such as Charles Darwin who developed all of his ideas for evolution, for instance, on his initial studies of the wild orchids of Great Britain.

He noticed what insects and that sort of thing came to pollinate them, and he studied them.

That is how he formulated his idea of natural selection.

So you are in the company of Charles Darwin and there are many scientists over all the years that fell under the spell of orchids.

You are in good company if you grow orchids.
