Where do Orchids grow in nature?
Mostly the tropical orchids or subtropical are all epiphytes.
That is they do not have roots which grow down into any kind
of soil or dirt. They like a lot of air movement around there
roots. The northern orchids are a modified epiphyte. There roots
do not grow down into dirt so to speak. There roots live in
the upper layer of humus.
Orchids grow verywhere except the Arctic, Antarctic, and the
major deserts of the world.
